Our favourite 10 activities for kids in Hervey Bay

See the whales – we are famous for our whale-watching!

Spend the day out on the bay whale watching or gaze at the boats as they go in and out at the Marina.

Visit the beach and build a sandcastle or go for a swim.

Don’t forget your hat and suncream. Or take the kids to the Hervey Bay Aquatic center (Boundary Road) which has a toddler pool area and water slides.

Play on one of the playgrounds along the Esplanade.

Hervey Bay has five playgrounds along the Esplanade at Pt Vernon, Pialba, Scarness, Torquay, Urangan.

Walk, jog or bike the Esplanade.

If the kids are feeling energetic try the exercise equipment at Torquay (parental supervision required). Or you can hire a multi-seater bike at Aquavue complete with bike helmets and seats on the front for little ones (Torguay Beachfront).

Go fishing off the Pier or from one of the jettys.

There are several fishing shops along the Esplanade and on Boat Harbour Drive where you can buy a small rod or fishing line and bait.

Have a picnic or BBQ.

There are gas barbeques along the Esplanade and at all the Playgrounds (cleaned daily by Fraser Coast City Council). Great for a picnic barbeque by the beach.

Or pack a picnic and feed the ducks at the Botanic Gardens.

Go shopping.

The main shopping malls have something extra for kids over the holidays. There are Sunday markets on each weekend at either the Koala Markets or Nikenbah Markets. See Hervey Bay local papers for details.

For the adventurous.

How about a trip to Fraser Island? There are four wheel drive packages that range from two nights onwards. Or perhaps try a day trip with Kingfisher Resort.

Kids Culture.

The Hervey Bay Library has a great kids area with books, a toy library, comfy bean bags, storytime and craft activities. Next door the Hervey Bay Art Gallery has interesting art up close. Encourages children’s participation with interactive artworks, displays of children’s art from local schools, and colouring competitions.

View the past at the Historical Museum.

Great displays and lots of places to explore and on the weekend you can even try your hand at being a blacksmith.
